Showers, of all places, poses serious risk for injuries. (Do this to prevent shower accidents)

John Nielson, 74, followed closely behind the ambulance as it carried his wife, Nora, 72, to the emergency room. Sick with worry, anger, and self-blame, he worried that he’d never see her alive again.

42 minutes earlier, John had knocked on the door to the bathroom, where his wife was taking an unusually long time in the shower.

“I didn’t really think anything of it,” John says, “until I noticed that almost an hour had gone by and she was still in there.”

John called for Nora after she’d failed to acknowledge his knock. After calling her name several more times, John decided to check on her. He had an uneasy feeling in his stomach as he opened the door. Half-in the shower and half-out, Nora was slumped over the edge of the tub.

“Her head was bleeding,” John says. “I tried to shake her awake, but she wasn’t moving. I thought-”

John takes a moment to blow his nose into his handkerchief.

“I didn’t know what to think.”

John immediately called 911. 38 minutes and 52 seconds later, they arrived on the scene. Still unconscious, they lifted Nora into the ambulance and headed toward the hospital.

Once at the hospital, Nora was brought back to stable condition by Dr. Jason Hallmark. Unfortunately, it was something Hallmark sees far too often.

“These types of accidents are an everyday occurrence in thousands of households across the country,” Hallmark says. “Mrs. Nielson was incredibly lucky. Oftentimes people go a lot longer without being checked on. And the worst part is that it can all be prevented.”

Always concerned for safety, Hallmark travels to nursing homes across the state to give vital information for preventing falls. One of the products he personally recommends in the SteadyMat Bath Mat.

“Every single home should be equipped with a proper safety bath mat,” Hallmark says. “It can not only prevent falls for seniors, but for healthy adults and children, as well. It’s simply necessary for safety.”

After hearing about the potentially life-saving qualities of the SteadyMat, I wanted to get some more information and find out just exactly what it is...

What is the SteadyMat and How does it work?

The SteadyMat isn’t like typical bath mats, which can either be tough on the feet, or, slide around on the bottom of the tub, defeating the purpose. Instead, the SteadyMatt’s made from a special polysponge fiber and infused with microband—a soft yet sturdy material that’s incredibly porous. So, water flows right through.

A happy side effect of the microband material is that, since it allows water to flow freely, there’s no buildup of soap scum or mildew.

And, the microscopic pores are so tiny, they catch and prevent any hair from going down the drain, keeping the pipes clear and free from buildup.

Everybody Seems To Be Getting In On This Trend

Apparently, SteadyMat is already widely-known across the country, with over 1 million Americans having purchased them to reduce the likelihood of a fall.

This seems to be a response to a recent CDC study, which stated an estimated 234,000 were treated in U.S. emergency departments for injuries that occurred in bathrooms. And, when you look at the numbers, it’s no surprise seniors everywhere are getting the SteadyMat to help protect them in the bathtub.

In fact, the study stated that 80% of seniors had experienced falls in bathroom, and one-third of adults over 65 were hospitalized due to injuries incurred in the bathroom.

Now more than ever, seniors are taking the risk of a bathtub fall seriously by ordering the SteadyMat.

And… the hype is undeniable

Since its debut, SteadyMat has been constantly selling out, due to people who are taking their health seriously.

This is in no small part due to the large orders being placed by hospitals, nursing homes, and home-care facilities as they work to reduce the risk of danger in the bathroom.

SteadyMat has quickly developed a large group of happy supporters. Here are some customer reviews:

"Not your 1950's bath mat! My husband is a doctor and always wants me to use a bath mat because he worries about slipping in the tub. I hated them, until now. I have used and tossed so many bath mats over the years. Most of them get moldy and gross so quickly. And they always look so ugly. This one is the best I have used. Here is what I love, it’s simple. It attaches quickly, it covers most of the tub, the holes in it allow the water to escape so mold doesn’t form, its machine washable (huge plus), it looks nice (not a 1950’s design), and a great warranty. They included instructions for how to attach and to clean. I think this will be the last bath mat I ever buy!!"

- Tina Alexander

"It fits in my garden tub covering most of the bottom of it and it feels good on feet etc. it's also very easy to get to stick, clean etc. In general is really nicely made and looks good. I was questionable on what to buy but am really glad I found this one it's perfect."

- Kathy Washington

"Absolutely loved this bath mat!! Definitely great price and nice to have. Suction cups stick easily and the mat doesn't move a millimeter! Highly recommend. I also really like that there are holes to make sure water doesn't get caught underneath."

- Patricia Green

I caught up with Dr. Jason Hallmark to see what he had to say about the importance of the SteadyMat, and why he’s so determined to get the message out about it. Here’s what he had to say:

People don’t realize how big of an injury risk the bathtub truly is. 1.6 million older adults seek emergency care for fall-related injuries each year. The bathtub is not a soft and forgiving place to slip. There are serious consequences for being careless.

Did you know seniors 65 and up have a 25% chance of dying within a year if they fall and break their hip? It’s simply not something to be taken lightly. The SteadyMat is simply the best product to help protect against bathroom slips. Families that have it are safer, period.

- Dr. Jason Hallmark

After Dr. Hallmark’s passionate endorsement, I decided it was time to try SteadyMat for myself.

So, I ordered one from the official website, and it arrived in the mail two days later. After unboxing it and “installing” it in the bathtub (I use quotes because the “installation” process is just laying it right on the bottom of the bathtub), I immediately saw why Dr. Hallmark is so adamant about families having one.

Here’s what I noticed...

Safe and Secure: The SteadyMat stays in place while I take shower. It won’t budge, even when I try pushing it with my feet.

Anti-Slip: Soap runs right through it, so even when there are a lot of suds they don’t just “sit” on the mat.

Comfortable: It’s soft enough where I don’t have that classic “rough ache” on the bottom of my feet, like what sometimes happens with other bath mats. But, it’s still textured enough that I know I wont slip at all.

No Puddles: So, while I was remarkably comfortable standing on it, the water drained right through to the bottom. I even put it right over the drain as a test, and no puddles formed at all.

Stays Clean: After 60 days of using it, the mat stays clean and looks like new. The instructions say it’s washing machine safe, if I ever want to wash it, but I haven’t had to since mildew and mold don’t build up.

I was so impressed with the SteadyMat, I ended up getting two more… one for my second bathroom and one for my parents as a gift. They love it, and it’s nice knowing they’re protected against falls.

So… what’s the cost, and is it worth it?

The price is pretty reasonable at $30 for a mat. And, for the peace of mind it gives you, it’s definitely worth it. Just the simple fact alone that it can and probably will save your life makes the SteadyMat a no-hesitation buy. It’s easy to see why Dr. Hallmark recommends this product so adamantly.

What can you say about a bathtub mat? What I say about this one is that it is perfect! Long size covers most of the length of a standard tub and it STICKS! I've had it for awhile now and it has yet to budge at all. It's soft and comfortable to stand on and my feet stay secure. Not once have I felt like I slipped on it. Be safe and get one of these!

Perfect! No more concerns over slipping when entering or exiting the shower. Suction cups keep it place with a nice blue color. Very nice! The kids even enjoy it too!

It's really a heavy duty mat with great quality. The size is perfect for my bathtub. I was worried it would leave exposed spots but nope, just the right fit for a standard bath tub.

I love my new bath mat. It is amazing how a new bath mat can make my old bathtub look so good. I love the feel of the raised ridges on the mat on my feet too.

Perfect size - good looking in my shower - it stays clean on its own, and even more importantly is like getting a foot massage when walking or standing on it.. overall perfection!

Just bought 3 more bath mats! 1 for my downstairs shower and 2 as gifts to my parents who are a little clumsy and have slippery tubs!

This bath mat is very pretty and does what it’s supposed to. My kids bathtub is very slippery so this is long enough to cover most of the tub. The blue mat makes bathtime funner. The suction cups hold tight and easy to come off if needed.

This has actually been holding up really well. I have gone through so many other ones because they either split or break apart, or they just get so nasty it's impossible to clean them completely. Got this one and it's super durable. Easy to clean, comfortable for my two babies to take a bath on, and does not slip. I am very happy with it.

I am very happy with this bathmat. The one we had before this was impossible to clean, but this one is very easy to clean and I love that it has draining holes so there's no buildup or clogs. Would buy again!
