NBT. What’s that stand for? Stick with me a moment and I’ll tell you.
I have a problem that I don’t like to talk about. In fact, I wouldn’t have written this six months ago.
Things got crazy for a while back there in 2020, and I entered this weird push/pull kind of situation with my dentist. For the first few months, they weren’t really open for business. Then when they did reopen, I wasn’t exactly comfortable going in (maybe, truthfully, I—like most Americans—will take ANY excuse not to go to the dentist) so it ended up being a little longer than a year between my visits.
Remember NBT?
I was noticing the signs of not getting a deep cleaning. A bit of tartar buildup that normal brushing and flossing weren’t really getting rid of, and I was having to use a lot of mouthwash and breath mints (nothing’s worse than inhaling your own mask breath for hours!) just to make it through the day. I was complaining about this to a coworker of mine, telling her I needed to just buck up and get to the dentist, when she said something that really shocked me.
“Honey, it’s hard times. You don’t need a dentist, you just need the Next Best Thing.”
There it is. NBT.
I asked, “What’s the next best thing compared to a dentist?”
My coworker spent the next thirty minutes telling me about how she’s done a deep dive into the DIY (do it yourself) lifestyle on just about everything since last year, and from what she can tell about dental hygiene, she recommended something called SonoShine.
“When you start DIY’ing your life, you gotta get the opinion of the experts in the field,” she said, “and my dentist told me over the phone that he uses something exactly like it for himself and his kids. He said he recommends this specific one because it’s affordable and is the next best thing to a true dental cleaning.”
Wow, I thought. A dentist actually recommended this specific product? I was getting desperate, but not desperate enough to just throw money at the first affordable solution that came along. My coworker’s insight was making me interested, so I decided to do some research on the SonoShine.
What Is It And How Does It Work?
SonoShine is an innovative new tooth cleaner designed to give you peace of mind between your dentist visits. This clever tartar scraper boasts a cleaning attachment that spins up to 12,000 vibrations per minute, guaranteeing you quick and effortless removal of dental calculus, plaque, tartar, stains, etc. SonoShine is made from only safe and premium materials—like medical grade steel alloy and food-grade silicone—making this dental calculus remover much safer than similar teeth cleaning tools. Using it about once a month could be helpful to avoid toothaches and gum illness.
SonoShine is easy and convenient to use: five gears are available to adjust your level of cleaning to suit your preference and comfort. No need for floss, water flosser or mouthwash. SonoShine works best when combined with daily brushing. Enjoy the next best thing to professional teeth cleaning in the comfort of your own home. SonoShine is portable: pack it for trips or even bring it to use on your lunch break at work!
But…Is It Really Worth All This Hype?
So far, the SonoShine has sold over 10 million units directly to consumers, even without the help of being sold in stores. The SonoShine has been SELLING OUT every time new stock becomes available, it’s become THAT popular.
And, it’s all from word of mouth. People just like you are loving it so much that they’re posting about it on Instagram and telling everyone they know about it!
The SonoShine has started to develop a cult following, and with over 8,000 5-star reviews, it makes sense. Here’s what customers are saying about it:

My old electric toothbrush recently called it quits and I was looking for a cheaper alternative to remove buildup. I’ve been using this a few weeks and it’s been great! The battery life is better than my old toothbrush and it’s not nearly as rough on my sensitive teeth! sonicare.

I have tried many other teeth cleaners, but I like this the most! It cleans deeper while also being gentle on the gums. No more awful calculus in my teeth!!

Had a little bit of tartar build up in between dentist visits, so I got this thing. Works amazingly, my teeth felt just like I left the dentist office when I was finished. No pain, easy to use!
After seeing the incredible reception this product was getting compared to the others I looked at, and with the recommendation from my coworker and her dentist, I knew I had to try it for myself. I jumped on the company’s official website and ordered one the moment it came back in stock.
…Here’s What I Found.
The SonoShine arrived in just 2 days. I was so excited to try it, but I made sure to inventory the surprisingly nice box it came in to make sure I had everything:
- 1 Dental Calculus Remover
- 1 Sharp cleaning head
- 1 USB Charging Cable
- 1 Dental Mirror
- 1 User Manual
I felt the anxiety leave me as soon as I gave this product a test run.
I can’t understate how easy it was to use and how impressed I was with the results. I immediately noticed the silicone handle with the ergonomic grip felt so comfortable in my hand. It is definitely designed to be portable, as it is not heavy or awkwardly shaped at all. It was light but felt sturdy, so I knew this wasn’t just a cheap piece of plastic. I started with the lowest setting and it buzzed right on. Using the mirror it came with, I was able to figure out how to angle it to get the appropriate view and started whizzing away with the calculus remover, and it took away just about all the tartar buildup on my teeth.
This thing is amazing! I finished up and set it on the carry stand, plugged the USB charger in, and that was that. Literally, a simple solution to a big problem of mine. Of course, I still brush regularly and now that things are coming back around I have a real dentist appointment scheduled, but I’m actually looking forward to it: I can’t wait to see what he has to say now that I’ve been using SonoShine!
Is It Worth It?
Of course! I can’t recommend SonoShine enough. When life throws you a curve ball and you can’t get your first choice, sometimes you just need the NBT.
It isn’t the same as getting a deep cleaning at your dentist, but it’s the Next Best Thing, and it’s totally worth it. I saw my dentist a week ago: when it got to the exam, he was confused. He actually asked me if it had really been a year and a half since he last did a cleaning, because it looked like I’d just been there a few days ago! I told him about SonoShines and how I’d been very diligent about using it and brushing regularly. He told me that was a good move and I should keep it up!
I started getting a few SonoShines to give to family members on their birthdays, and they’ve been ecstatic to see how clean they can keep their teeth between visits to the dentist. There’s a lot more smiling going on in my world, and I can smile confidently thanks to SonoShine.

I've had issues with tartar build up ever since I got my permanent retainer 12 years ago. Even buying and using a waterpik, it wasn't an adequate enough cleaning tool for removing tartar in between my dental cleanings. This tool actually surprised me because with a good enough angle and some patience, it can be very effective!
